Too Damn Many Movies.

I love it, though.  Nothing better than a good movie.  Nothing better than a bad movie, for that matter.  I’ve seen my share of both.  And now I want to share some of them with you.

But where to start?  I’ve seen too damn many movies.  You want your first post to be significant somehow.  Special.  But there’s this vast ocean of movies and trying to pick one – just one – to start with is frankly quite daunting.  What if you choose poorly?  What if you pick something… lame?  Obviously, I’m putting too much thought into this and blowing it completely out of proportion.  That’s easy to do when you get overwhelmed.  Hmmm.  Where to start.  Where. To. Start.

I suppose I could be trite and pick something safe, like Casablanca or Gone With The Wind, which are fantastic movies that I’ve seen many times and like a great deal.  Or I could go the other way, get all hipster on you and start in on some obscure flick and then insult you by sniffing that you’ve probably never heard of it.  Which, obviously, I have no way of knowing whether you know a movie or not.  I do know that people often know more than other people give them credit for.  That’s as true of movies as it is of anything else.  And besides, I’m not trying to be Leonard Maltin here – or even Joe Bob Briggs, for that matter.  I’m not much of a critic – I like too much to be convincingly critical of most of it.  I’m not trying to dissect anything or analyze movies here and tell you that because you jumped at the shower scene in Psycho it means that you’re sexually repressed or something.

No, I just want to talk about movies I like, and occasionally movies I hate, and maybe get you to watch one or two of them in the process.  That’s it.  No high-brow here, no educational content, no philosophy or theory of cinema… just talking about movies.

Just talking about movies.

For instance, there’s a movie you ought to see, a neat flick called… No, we’ll get into that next time.  Next time.

I suffer from acute cinemisery: A lingering depression that can only be alleviated by watching too many damn movies. Sometimes I share them. With someone like you.
